Today is my stop on the blog tour for the second book in Christine DePetrillo's lovely Maple Leaf series. It's a sweet and entertaining romance set in a small Vermont town and it is out now, so if you are a fan of the genre make sure you check it out! About the book: "I don't usually trust my heart, but I know it's not lying to me about you." Sage Stannard is grumpy. Having just attended her cousin’s wedding in California, she’s at her limit for watching happy couples stare dreamily at one another. She’s never had anything but quick romps back home in Vermont that always turn out to be mistakes. Big ones. Maybe moving out of her mother’s house and taking a stab at online dating will add a little excitement to this caterer’s stale life. Maybe it’ll bring more disappointment. Who knows? Chainsaw artist Orion Finley is on a mission to get his daughter, Myah, back from his ruthless ex-wife. Only trouble is his ex-wife is a crafty lawyer with connections—ones that give her the upper hand. She even managed to get custody of his dog, Ranger, just to drive the stake deeper into his heart. His father always told him women were poison, especially the pretty ones. Why hadn’t he listened? Well, he was listening now. When Sage and Orion meet over a bloody couch, the gates are opened to a path neither of them is quite ready to travel on. Will they stumble? Will it be all uphill? Or will the end of the path be just the new beginning they need? Buy Links: Get Your Copy Today! Catching Up with the Series: More Than Pancakes More Than Cookies More Than Rum More Than Pizza More Than Cocoa More Than Peaches More Than Candy Corn My thoughts: If you've read More than Pancakes, the first book in Christine DePetrillo's Maple Leaf series, chances are you are already in love with her sweet, but strong and caring characters Lily and Rick, and I bet you couldn't wait to read the next story. You will also be delighted to find out Rick and Lily also make appearance in this new book, although this time it is about Sage Stannard, Rick's cousin. The story begins with Lily and Rick's wedding and happy as they are for their cousin's future marital bliss, Sage and Hope can't help longing for meeting someone who'd love and cherish them as much. Unfortunately for Sage, she hasn't had much luck with relationships that turn out to be short-lived. Sage would love to move out of her mother's home, but then she gets a shock of her life by finding a shot man in the living room of her recently found dream house. A brief conversation in the hospital where Sage took Orion Finley and Sage knows this quiet man has been hurt and is going through tough times fighting his ex-wife, but he is also a strong and loyal man, a man after her own heart. Christina DePetrillo knows how to draw you in into the story and make you root for the characters. It is easy to sympathise with Sage and her desire for something more meaningful after numerous disappointments. Orion's bitter divorce has left him unable to trust all women in general. He is a tender father and would do anything for his daughter. Apart from these realistic moments and swoonworthy romance there's also mystery, suspense, and intrigue to keep you turning pages into the small hours. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys fast-paced stories with brooding single dads, slow-burn romance with caretaking and drama with a hateful ex. Rest assured, the ending won't disappoint! Can't wait to read the next book in the series! Author Bio: Christine DePetrillo can often be found hugging trees, conversing with dragonflies, and walking barefoot through sun-warmed soil. She finds joy in listening to the wind, bathing in moonlight, and breathing in the fragrances of things that bloom. If she had her way, the sky would be the only roof over her head. Her love of nature seeps into every story she tells. As does her obsession with bearded mountain men who build, often smell like sawdust, and know how to cherish the women they love. Today she writes tales meant to make you laugh, maybe make you sweat, and definitely make you believe in the power of love. She lives in Vermont with her husband and many woodland creatures who defend her fiercely from all evils. Get By the Cup salad shop off the ground. Do literally everything possible to make it a success. Repeat. With a head full of entrepreneurial ideas and a bad ex in her rearview, her one and only focus is living life the way she wants to. No distractions. Wes Jansen never did understand the fuss about relationships. With a string of lackluster first dates and the pain from his parents’ angry divorce following him around, he’d much rather find someone who he likes, but won’t love. Companionship, not passion, is the name of the game. When Hailey and Wes find each other in a disastrous meet cute that wasn’t even intended for them, they embarrassingly go their separate ways. But when Wes finds Hailey to apologize for his behavior, they strike a friendship. Because that’s all this can be. Hailey doesn’t want any distractions. Wes doesn’t want to fall in love. What could possibly go wrong? Publisher: St.Martin's Griffin Publication date: 17/1/23 Purchase link ISBN 9781250624208, 1250624207 My thoughts: A lovely final book in a delightful series featuring three brothers and their different ways to Happily-ever-after. If you loved 10 Rules For Faking it and How to Love Your Neighbour, you must have been waiting impatiently for this third and final book. If you are new to Sophie Sullivan's romcoms, don't worry, it can definitely be read as a standalone. Hailey Sharp is a ray of sunshine- sweet and independent, Hailey never complains or relies on other people to solve her problems. Instead of wallowing in misery after her emotionally-abusive relationship came to an end, Hailey sold her apartment, moved to a new town and opened a business of her own. Now what she really needs is to focus on making her salad bar successful and ...finding friends, becoming a part of this lovely, vibrant community. Wes Jansen has decided to follow his brothers to California and continue building their cybersecurity/investment business as far as possible from their father. Unlike Chris and Noah he doesn't want love and family, as they are too difficult to predict and control. He doesn't even want to date casually. What he needs is a friend, and luckily he already has a perfect candidate for that- Hailey, after their embarrassing meet-cute. All they have to do is set their boundaries and not let their feelings grow in (un)predictably romantic ways.... If friends-to-lovers happens to be your favourite trope, you know how often it is about old childhood friends or schoolmates or a best friend's brother/sister. Sophie Sullivan explores something else her - two people may be perfect for each other, but aren't ready to date seriously not this specific person, but anyone. Hailey's just started her business and needs time to forget her ex's lies, Wes is ...very rigid and uptight. They both have parents issues (very different, but with the same outcome)-the author writes about something very realistic and relatable, but in a light-hearted, entertaining way. Recommended to anyone who likes slow-burn romance, sweet, likeable characters (both main and secondary), and happily-ever-afters. Can't wait to read Sophie Sullivan's next book! My thoughts:
My first book by Zoe Forward and I could tell straightaway she is an experienced author...and a veterinarian! All these wonderful scenes with animal patients (sometimes cute, sometimes heartbreakingly tragic, always realistic)- they must have been based on Zoe's real life experience. Trust me, they were one of the best aspects of the book. The enemies-to-lovers trope is full of tension and passion by definition, but here we have two ER vets with an unresolved conflict from college time being forced into fake dating on national TV, and you know it's a perfect recipe for lots and lots of drama. Add the snark, general grumpiness and (in my opinion justified) Olympic level grudge-holding ability of one of the protagonists and the easygoing 'sunshine' of the other one-no wonder sparks do fly! Dr Amber Hardin might come across as prickly, but when it comes to saving animal lives, she is one of the best. The ER clinic where she's finishing her residency year needs to bring in money and does it by hosting a reality TV show. Amber is contractually obligated to be on camera 30% of her working time. When her 'old nemesis' Ian Todd is brought in on the show, Amber knows she will have to endure working with him for a few months, but then the stakes are raised, as the producers would like Ian to become Amber's love interest. Our protagonists have their reasons for complying with this request, although it certainly makes their relationship super complicated. Ian genuinely likes and respects Amber and would love to get a second chance with her, while Amber struggles working out what is true and what is there just for the sake of rolling cameras. I liked the protagonists. Despite her grumpy, '#NoFilter' reputation, Amber is very truthful, loyal, and down-to-earth person, while there's definitely more to Ian than just his good looks and bright smiles. Whatever happened in the past to drive these two apart, they have a lot in common in terms of their values and their life outlook (their background couldn't have been more different). They are much more friends-who-are-bound-to-become-lovers than enemies, and it worked for me. I loved their first date! I wish the secondary characters were more developed, though. There was a lot of potential with Amber's siblings, each of whom could be a star of their own book. Who would I recommend this book to? Obviously anyone who loves animals and reality TV! It's an easy, entertaining book with likeable protagonists and a perfect happy ending. Hope Zoe Forward turns it into a series and tells us more about Bruno, Joley, Marino, and Nabi. Thank you to NetGalley, Giselle from XBT and the author for the revew copy, provided in exchange for an honest opinion. GIVEAWAY! Reasons Why Not to Date Public Enemy CEO

My thoughts:
Summer is finally with us and what can be better than reading a lively, lighthearted romcom on a hot summer day like this? If you're stuck for choice, here is Melanie Mutton's newest release and it's fun, fun, fun!!! I don't know about you, but I adore lists, so no wonder this book won me over from page one. Scratch that, it was the cover that told me straightaway- my favourite tropes of enemies-to-lovers and GrumpyVersus Sunshine are coming in one hot package! Mia Sparks, a sweet and hard-working girl everybody in her small town of Shell Grove loves, knows she needs to stay away from her ridiculously hot and, yes, ridicullously grumpy boss, and the reasons make a list as long as her arm...But what can you do when there's the proverbial spark and the chemistry is just off the charts? Aiden maybe a shrewd businessman everyone loves to hate, but perhaps there's more to him than his evil reputation? One thing you can count on- he knows Mia is special and worth fighting for. I was looking for a quick and entertaining read and I knew Melanie Mutton never disappoints. I flew through this fast-paced book in a couple blissful hours and now I can't wait to come back to Shell Grove and find out what future has in store for Mia's friends! Synopsis: Charming, hilarious, and emotional...Starry-Eyed Love is Helena Hunting at her very best! Having just broken up with her boyfriend, London Spark is not in the mood to be hit on. Especially not when she’s out celebrating her single status with her sisters. So when a very attractive man pays for their drinks and then slips her his number, she passes it right back to him with a ‘thanks, but no thanks’. As the business administrator for their family’s event hotel, the Spark House, London has more important things to worry about, like bringing in new clientele. As luck would have it, a multi-million-dollar company calls a few months later asking for a meeting to discuss a potential partnership, and London is eager to prove to her sisters, and herself, that she can land this deal. Just when she thinks she has nailed her presentation, the company’s CEO, Jackson Holt, walks in and inserts himself into the meeting. Not only that, but he also happens to be the same guy she turned down at the bar a few months ago. As they begin to spend more time together, their working relationship blossoms into something more. It isn’t until their professional entanglements are finally over, that London and Jackson are finally ready to take the next step in their relationship. But between Jackson’s secretive past and London’s struggle with her sisters, London must question where she really stands - not just with Jackson, but with the Spark House, too. Publication date: May 10, 2022 Publisher: St.Martin's Griffin ISBN 9781250624727, 125062472X My thoughts:
Starry-Eyed Love is the second book in the Spark House series by Helena Hunting. If you've read the first one, When Sparks Fly, you know that Avery, London, and Harley Spark lost their parents in a car accident when they were teenagers. Their grandmother retired from running the Spark House, an event venue/ hotel and passed the running of this family business to the younger generation. The three Spark sisters have been working hard and have expanded the business. Ever since I read When Sparks Fly, which focused on Avery and Declan's story, a delicious friends-to-lovers romance, I've been looking forward to reading about Avery's middle sister- quiet and artistic London. London has just broken up with her boyfirend and is on a night out with her sisters (hooray, Fun London is back in the house!), when a hot-looking stranger pays for their srinks and asks London out. She knows she isn't emotionally ready to start dating again, so she turns him down. Fast forward three months and imagine London in the middle of a business presentation to a multi-million media company and guess who is walking in into the conference room. The company CEO Jackson Holt who also happens to be the stranger she turned down. Now they have to work together on organising a charity event and Jackson is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional and so dating is out of question...until the event is over. There are two points of view - London's and Jackson's- which gives us a good insight into their feelings and how they are developing. The first book explored Avery's love of sports and everything sport-related. I am a bit of a couch potato, but I was fascinated. This time we dive into the business world (especially in the first part of the book) and the thorny topic of work-life balance. It is and it isn't easy to run a family business when you have a particularly close relationship with your siblings. On one hand, you can divide tasks according to your strengths and inclinations, on the other hand, what do you do when the old ways of working aren't right for the size of your business and you desperately need help? Helena Hunting has a very easy-to-read, almost addictive writing style. I really enjoyed this well-written second-chance trope with interesting, likeable characters, a bit of steam (this is a Helena Hunting book, so sparks will fly) and plenty of tender, emotional moments. Can't wait to read Harley's story! Thank you to NetGalley and St.Martin's Press for the review copy, provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
Melissa Foster is celebrating the release of her new contemporary romance, Maybe We Won't! Check it out and be sure to grab your copy today!
Title: Maybe We Won't Author: Melissa Foster Genre: Contemporary Romance About Maybe We Won't: A sexy and soul-stirring novel about love, family, and rediscovering what matters most by Melissa Foster, the New York Times bestselling author of Maybe We Will. When workaholic Boston attorney Deirdra de Messiéres is passed over for a well-deserved promotion, she takes a two-month hiatus to show her boss just how much he needs her and heads home to Silver Island. But beyond seeing her sisters happy, home is not where Deirdra’s heart is. She has no interest in their family restaurant, the Bistro, or reliving hurtful childhood memories, and absolutely no interest in spending a single second with Josiah “Jagger” Jones, the Bistro’s too-laid-back musician and chef. Sure, the hippie is hot, but he drives her nuts. The guy lives in a van with his dog, and he can’t even commit to a solid work schedule. To make matters worse, he’s always around. She needs to get off the island, stat. Jagger has overcome his own personal trials to place stock in life’s pleasures: family, friends, peace…and if he has his way, one positively beautiful, absolutely uptight attorney. Jagger knows he’s the perfect person to help Deirdra deal with her hurtful past and find her way back to being happy. A chance encounter leads to deep conversation, and night after liberating night, Deirdra lets down her guard. But neither has plans to stay on Silver Island. Free-spirited Jagger has wanderlust, and Deirdra has a career to return to. They’re on different paths, and plans for a future together don’t stand a chance. But when has anything gone according to plan? My thoughts:
Maybe We Won't is the third novel in Melissa Foster's Silver Harbor trilogy set in her Silver Island romantic universe. I really looked forward to Deidra's book and it didn't disappoint. There was Melissa's trademark passion and sexiness, tender moments interspersed with hilarious banter, and, above all, a clear focus on what matters the most- family, kindness, finding yourself and helping others- real love! While all three books can be read as standalones, I recommend starting from Maybe We Will, where we learnt about Abby and Deidra's childhood -you will get a better understanding and emotional build-up to Deidra's story. In books 1 and 2 we see Deidra as a mysterious workaholic, dedicated to her career of a corporate lawyer. It is almost as if she is running away from her home island. Anything unplanned and free-spirited reminds her of the selfishness of her alcoholic mother. Laidback, sympathetic Jagger is Deidra's sunny opposite, but if anyone can help her process her complex feelings towards her mother and help her embrace life, that's Jagger. There's so much chemistry between these two unlikely soulmates, you will never doubt they were meant to be together! I really liked the research and thought that went into creating Gabe, Jagger's younger brother. If you are a fan of Melissa's previous books, you know there will be lots of familiar faces and happy couples from the island's big family. An emotional, engaging, passionate book about forgiveness, patience. and family- fans of Melissa Foster are going to be delighted with this final book in her De Messieres sisters trilogy and will start looking forward to reading Melissa's next story. The first thing I noticed (well, apart from this gorgeous book cover) was how readable the book is. Lisa Hobman's writing style makes it very easy to get into the story and follow the events. It is also very sweet and romantic, given the differences in the background of the two protagonists Fin and Star- and yet, they are also perfect for each other. Fin has been trying to be a perfect son all his life, but nothing makes his demanding parents happy or proud of him. He even agrees to something that can only be called an arranged marriage to please his father and promote his business interests. But then things go spectacularly wrong... Star is An American who is in love with all things Scottish (can't blame her!). When she gets a chance to move to Edinburgh, she can finally move to the city of her dreams. A talented photographer, Star lso works in a coffee shop where she meets Fin. Sparks fly, but the road to true happiness isn't easy. Fabulous setting and lots of great characters, both main and supporting, plus, Lisa Hobman's lovely, warm writing style - the book has so much going on for it! Recommended to all readers looking for a sweet, enjoyable story with a bit of family drama and a happily-ever-after in the end. Home for Christmas Would you share a bed with your enemy to save Christmas? Down with a bad case of writer's block, Riven has escaped to a mountain cabin for a prolonged writing retreat. The last thing he needs this Christmas is for his family to invade his sanctuary away from LA. What he needs even less is for a family of strangers as large and boisterous as his own to also be stuck in the same house after a double-booking disaster. Especially when he ends up having to share a bunk bed with Wendy—a gorgeous, feisty New Yorker who quickly learns how to get under his skin. Sharing a room with her is sweet torture and Riven isn’t even sure what he dreads more: that every passing day brings them closer to saying goodbye or that they have yet another night to spend together... Purchase Links Amazon /Apple / B&N / Kobo / Google Play My thoughts: It's never too late or too early for a good Christmas romcom, especially when it comes from one of my favourite authors- Camilla Isley! Sweet and sassy protagonists, great, easy-to-read writing style, and plenty of lovely Christmas spirit, what's more can a girl ask for? If you're a fan of forced cloze proximity and enemies-to-lovers tropes, you'll love this one. Riven Clark is going through a messy divorce, but, no, no, he isn't hiding from his family in a snow cabin in a ski resort in Utah. He is desperately trying to meet a deadline for his latest adventure book. Alas! words don't come easy... Wendy Nichols is a successful playwright who just can't get it right with any of her relationships. She is gorgeous, smart, loyal, and yet, her investment banker boyfriend wouldn't even call her back, let alone agree to spend the Christmas week with her family...in a cabin in a ski resort in Utah. Which just happens to be doublebooked. If you've read In a Holidaze, you know there will be snow angels and mistletoe kisses, but this time the families sharing the cabin aren't lifelong friends, they are total strangers. So can you blame Riven for being a bit put out about having to share his sanctuary with fifteen other people? Can you blame Wendy for playing a few pranks on him? oh, wait a second, pranks come from both sides... I love Camilla's sense of humour and romantic spirit. Yes, sometimes love surprises you, but more often than not, you have to be ready for it, ready to appreciate the other person beyond their good looks or fame, ready for commitment beyond a few days' fun. I have to say I was on the side of one of the characters, if only they communicated their reasons a bit better. Looking for a quick, entertaining, clean romance? To add fuel the fire, Ruby has also been ‘honoured’ with the unenviable task of being Head Bridesmaid. So determined not to let Olivia down, she signs up to a swanky new diet & fitness club, The Bluebell Booty Busters. Uncertain of what to expect Ruby meets Harry Small, a wealthy local businessman who ‘joins’ Booty Busters, after pressure from his wife, who’s worried about his health and growing waistline. Ruby and Harry soon team up as diet buddies, supporting each other through their dieting crisis’s. But something seems amiss at Booty Busters when they both discover that if it looks too good to be true; it probably is…. Will Ruby and Harry ever reach their targets? And will Ruby do her sister proud and be the Belle of the Ball? Publisher: Boldwood Books Publication Date: 2 March 2022 Purchase link This is the second book in a series, but it can be read as a standalone as the author provides brief recaps of the story so far. The cover is just gorgeous, isn't it? You can see it's a time for reflection and taking a breath in a beautiful seaside setting. Can there be a better setting for a romantic book than lovely Dorset? There are two main storylines- Ruby Lambert's who is trying to lose baby weight to look good for her sister Olivia's wedding and Harry Small's who has also joined the same weight losing program to save his marriage. A quick and easy read, although the topic isn't something I'd usually go for. I guess more than anything else Ruby wants to take control of a part of her life. She's generally confident and decisive, but having to raise her newborn son on her own obviously brought a lot of changes in her life. I adored her tender moments with Simon and her constant realisation of the love she is feeling for him. Harry's story was also very curious, although, compared to Ruby with her healthy family support network, he seemed more isolated and even lonely. Personally, I wasn't very invested in Mr B's tricks and practical jokes side. Perhaps, there was more about him in the first book and this is just a catch-up? In case you're wondering there is a happily-ever-after and things work out wonderfully for all the main characters. If you are looking for a bit of positivity and an escape from reality, this is a book for you.
