#Book Review #Starry-Eyed Love (Spark House, Book 2) by Helena Hunting #Contemporary Romance @St.Martin's Griffin

9/5/2022

Synopsis:

Charming, hilarious, and emotional...Starry-Eyed Love is Helena Hunting at her very best! Having just broken up with her boyfriend, London Spark is not in the mood to be hit on. Especially not when she’s out celebrating her single status with her sisters. So when a very attractive man pays for their drinks and then slips her his number, she passes it right back to him with a ‘thanks, but no thanks’. As the business administrator for their family’s event hotel, the Spark House, London has more important things to worry about, like bringing in new clientele.

As luck would have it, a multi-million-dollar company calls a few months later asking for a meeting to discuss a potential partnership, and London is eager to prove to her sisters, and herself, that she can land this deal. Just when she thinks she has nailed her presentation, the company’s CEO, Jackson Holt, walks in and inserts himself into the meeting. Not only that, but he also happens to be the same guy she turned down at the bar a few months ago.

As they begin to spend more time together, their working relationship blossoms into something more. It isn’t until their professional entanglements are finally over, that London and Jackson are finally ready to take the next step in their relationship. But between Jackson’s secretive past and London’s struggle with her sisters, London must question where she really stands - not just with Jackson, but with the Spark House, too.

My thoughts:
Starry-Eyed Love is the second book in the Spark House series by Helena Hunting. If you've read the first one, When Sparks Fly, you know that Avery, London, and Harley Spark lost their parents in a car accident when they were teenagers. Their grandmother retired from running the Spark House, an event venue/ hotel and passed the running of this family business to the younger generation. The three Spark sisters have been working hard and have expanded the business. Ever since I read When Sparks Fly, which focused on Avery and Declan's story, a delicious friends-to-lovers romance, I've been looking forward to reading about  Avery's middle sister- quiet and artistic London.

London has just broken up with her boyfirend and is on a night out with her sisters (hooray, Fun London is back in the house!), when a hot-looking stranger pays for their srinks and asks London out. She knows she isn't emotionally ready to start dating again, so she turns him down. Fast forward three months and imagine London in the middle of a business presentation  to a multi-million media company and guess who is walking in into the conference room. The company CEO Jackson Holt who also happens to be the stranger she turned down. Now they have to work together on organising a charity event and Jackson is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional and so dating is out of question...until the event is over. There are two points of view - London's and Jackson's- which gives us a good insight into their feelings and how they are developing.

The first book explored Avery's love of sports and everything sport-related. I am a bit of a couch potato, but I was fascinated. This time we dive into the business world (especially in the first part of the book) and the thorny topic of work-life balance. It is and it isn't easy to run a family business when you have a particularly close relationship with your siblings. On one hand, you can divide tasks according to your strengths and inclinations, on the other hand, what do you do when the old ways of working aren't right for the size of your business and you desperately need help?

Helena Hunting has a very easy-to-read, almost addictive writing style. I really enjoyed this well-written second-chance trope with interesting,  likeable characters, a bit of steam (this is a Helena Hunting book, so sparks will fly) and plenty of tender, emotional moments. Can't wait to read Harley's story!
