Book Synopsis:
The third book in the Highland, Georgia romantic comedy series from Laura Trentham, A Highlander is Coming to Town, full of love, laughs...and highlanders! You better watch out. . . Holt Pierson is dreading Christmas. His parents absconded to Florida for the season and left him to handle the family farm which will be his one day―whether he wants it or not. Driven by duty, Holt has always followed the path expected of him. But lately, he’s been questioning what he wants and where he belongs. Will assuming the responsibility of the Pierson farm make him happy or is there something―or someone―else out in the wider world calling to him? To Claire Smythe, the Scottish lead singer of a touring band, Highland, Georgia, is the perfect place to hide . . .until a very handsome and deeply curious Holt begins to ask all the questions Claire doesn’t want to answer. As Holt draws Claire out from under and into the fabric of small-town life, can Claire put the past behind her and embrace the unexpected gifts of the season―including the new and lasting love? My thoughts: This is such a delightful series: lighthearted, sweet, romantic, and kind. Ever since I read the first book, I've been waiting to hear Holt pierson's story. It was clear that he is a great person, but this doesn't always guarantee being lucky in love. Well, things are going to change this Christmas, because there is a highlander in town and she might be just what Holt has been waiting for all his life. We met Claire Smythe in Book 2. She was a lead singer of a band that performed during the Highland Games. Claire is running away from something or someone. When the town preacher introduces her to eighty year old, frail but feisty Mrs Meadows who needs a live-in caregiver after her unfortunate fall, Claire grabs the opportunity to weather the storm in her life, and perhaps reflect on what really matters to her. Holt Pierson's father has unsuccessfully tried to buy Mrs Meadows' land, so there is no love lost between the two neighbours. Still, Holt has nothing to do with their dispute. All he knows is that he should have checked on his elderly neighbour to see if she needed his help. After all, Holt has been raised to be kind, responsible and considerate, something Claire can't help but be attracted to. What I love about this whole series is the town and it's inhabitants. One of the bigger questions these books are grappling with is the sense of belonging. What makes a place home? Claire never felt this type of community spirit and willingness to go an extra mile to help somebody out, even if they are barely more than a total stranger. Claire grew up in the place where appearances were more important than genuine affections and everybody seemed to have an agenda. It isn't easy 'to forge your own path' in this kind of environment, but Claire is determined to make her own choices. My favourite scenes in the book are that of Claire and Holt's first date and the scene where he is teaching her to milk cows. There is something sweet about this couple. Things might have been developing fast between them, but you do get a feeling that they are at the stage of their life where they have changed and are ready for something new and serious. I hope the author continues with this series as every single book in it has been fun to read. Having said that, it is difficult to say whose story might be next (Claire's cousin Lachlan?) and of course, I'd love to know how the couples from the previous books are doing. I'll be looking forward to Highland, Georgia #4. Thank you to NetGalley and St.Martin's for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion. Comments are closed.
