Oath-Breaker
GIVEAWAY!
My thoughts:
I have been a big fan of River Starr ever since I read her trilogy of Atlantis Institute for Dangerous Criminals, so when I saw her new book is coming out, I was delighted. This time we are far away from fae and vampires, we're diving into (or should it be soaring into) a world full of angels and demons. The book starts with a lot of action- Ayla, the leader of the Order of Celestial Paladins (call them angels), is on a rescue mission to liberate one of her warriors Jessa. Ayla took over the position after her fiance/life-mate Merek was captured and killed by the King of Demons, a.k.a. the Angel of Death. And this is how she finds herself begging to exchange Jessa's life for her own, but when she looks into the Angel's onyx eyes, she realises something that should be impossible- they have a strong mate bond, much stronger than what she had with Merek. Now she has only about three days to kill her archienemy and escape his palace. All of this while resisting the pull of their magic that is driving them crazy with desire. I'm not usually a big fan of insta-love, but with the fated mates trope insta-attraction is a given. Of course, Ayla has to re-think everything she knows about her world, but, given that her previous mate is dead, she is unattached, so her struggle is with her oath to the order and her loyalty to the celestial fight. I would have loved to see Luciaus (the Angel of Death) demostrate his magic a bit more and earlier in the book- it seemed like such a cool concept, which could have been explored more. Great world-building, hot and steamy scenes between the fated mates, magic battles with light swords, and a cliffhanger (duly foreshadowed) to make me want to grab the sequel straightaway. an't wait to read the next book! Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours, the author and the publisher for the free digital copy and this opportunity to review the book. All opinions are my own and were not influenced in any way.
